Bell Press is proud to have achieved Sustainable Green Print (SGP) Level 2 Certification.
Our Distributors and prospects look to us to keep up with demands from their marketplaces so now environmentally Bell Press is at the forefront.
Environmental requirements are growing in significance. So given the lead-time involved in bringing about cultural change, procedural change and completing documentation, we believe it is essential to allocate resources despite day to day pressures to meet the demands of the marketplace. What we have done:
• Completed the SGP Course and got an understanding of what was involved
• Appointed a team of three to drive the process and meet monthly
• Identified all waste streams
• Researched what environmentally supportive services are available
• Estimated the volumes and costs of responsible waste services• Purchased equipment (containers, spill kits etc)
• Commenced the new waste services
• Trained Staff and distributed training notes
• Set up a Noticeboard for staff and improved signage and labelling
• Documented our initiatives and were independently audited
• Awarded Sustainable Green Print Level 2
What we will do:
• Supervise changes and look for continual improvement
• Complete documentation on an ongoing basis
• Rely on the Printing Industry Association of Australia (PIAA) to keep us up to date with changes to legislation and provide us with relevant resources
• Every 12 months we will be required to be externally audited in order to maintain our environmental credentials
• Train new employees and provide ongoing training to existing employees as required
Responsible disposal of waste proved to be no more expensive than our existing practices.
Also, the Department of Environment’s Energy Reduction Programme paid us $5,000 towards changes we made to reduce our energy usage. Our contribution has a 3.5 year payback period.
It used to be ok just to write “working towards” environmental accreditation but in today’s world of accountability, claims are required to be validated by external auditors.
An unintended benefit has been the enthusiasm and participation of the staff who have contributed ideas and appreciate having the opportunity to act appropriately towards the environment. It has been a source of discussion and pride for the company and its employees.
